Polycom Soundpoint ip 501 Firmware update / Keeps rebooting

7th August 2013: This page is being updates as we speak.

OK I have spent many hours reading through blogs and pages to try and find out why my phone wonrt configure onto the Soho66. I brought 5 used phones off off ebay

Also had one of the phones just keep rebooting video example below.

I had to change the setup sequence to get it back to life which was quite simple.

You will need to disable the DHCP Client
Change the phone Ip Addree: to one of your local ip address example 192.168.001.177
Then change the Subnet Mask: to 255.255.255.0 (well in most cases)
IP Gateway: Is your routers address mines 192.168.1.10 but in most cases the last number would be a .1

Now Select Select Server Menu

Server Type: TrivialFTP
Server Address: This is the ip Address you have installed or going to install pumpKIn on.
Server User: Delete it (leave blank)
Server Password: Delete it (Leave blank)

Then click exit and save settings.

Sip 3.1.8 software update

So now we are all upto date go back to the setup option and change the DHCP Serve: Enabled

It takes about 3 minutes for these phones to bootup so you have to be patient.
If you want to use the web access you have to wait about 3 minutes after its booted for the web access to kick in.

Godd luck

Stop junk mail in your letter box

I think its pretty fair to say you can stop MOST of the junk mail by following these 2 simple steps.

Register with the mail preference service.
http://www.mpsonline.org.uk

Its also just as import to Opting out of Royal Mail's Door to Door service

You can write the request to

Freepost RSTR-YCYS-TGLJ
Royal Mail Door to Door Opt Outs
Kingsmead House
Oxpens Road
OXFORD
OX1 1AA

or request to optout by email optout@royalmail.com

It generally kicks in quite quick but can take a few months to filter through

Its also important to be careful who you give your address out to. if you have given your address out and tick a box for further information the above service will not over ride this option. In this case you will need to contact the sender. Its probably best to email them with a copy of the letter you received so you have a record should you continue to receive such mail.

Home server ?????

Home servers are good depending on what you want todo with it.

I had a home server (WHS) and as I general only streamed stuff from my home server I got a new router Netgear DGN200 and connected a harddrive. This is just as fast and flexible todo as a home server.

You can setup FTP access with individual user name and password access.

I have seen my electric consumption go down since I have stopped using the server. So it should start paying for itself in about 12-18 months.

FREE phone line for the kids - Sipgate

If your kids are always on your phone when you need to use it then setting up there own line is easy and cheaper then getting a second BT line.

I use http://www.sipgate.co.uk/user/ and its FREE to register so why not try it out.
You can even choose a local number for free.

You can install the FREE soft-phone on to there PC so they can use there PC as a phone.

or you can buy a handset. These can get expensive and I use a Siemens C475IP which start from around £80 depending on how many handsets you want. Or you can get a cheaper usb one for about £15.

Sipgate 2 Sipgate are free so if they call a particular friend they can talk for free.

Yes there is skype but it cost money to get a uk number and it does not cover all area codes and not everyone has internet> However with Sipgate friends can call you from a landline or mobile.

Your Hotmail is sending out spam

There is 2 ways this happens

1. You have clicked on a link and put your details in thinking its for something else
2. You have a virus on your PC

The best thing to do is get your computer scanned first.

Try http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sgdownload.html and run a scan then
try http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload_free.html

Once you have had a good clean out then change your hotmail account password.

Both these are free so what have you got to loose.
